Gran Canaria, the island of a thousand landscapes

There are places where the landscape changes with the light, where every valley and every breeze tell a different story. In the south, the sun caresses the dunes and the sea is tinged with gold; in the north, the cliffs mingle with ancient fishing villages, the aroma of coffee, one of the few that grows in all of Europe, perfumes the valleys, and the volcanic coast shows the wildest force of the ocean. In the heart of the island, the mountains are silent and pure, wrapped in forests and clouds that seem to be in no hurry. To discover it is to travel through a small immensity: a territory where everything is transformed and yet everything seems to be in perfect harmony

Santa Brígida

To visit Santa Brigida is to discover the quiet elegance of the interior of Gran Canaria. Surrounded by vineyards, green ravines and stately homes, this small village preserves the charm of another time and the authenticity of rural Canarian life.

In its historic center, the Church of Santa Brigida presides over a cozy square surrounded by traditional architecture, where it is common to see children playing. Nearby, the Casa del Vino invites you to taste the local wines and learn about the history of winemaking in the area, while the weekend market fills the streets with aromas, colors and fresh local produce.

In the Barranco de las Goteras ravine stands the impressive thousand-year-old dragon tree, a silent witness to the passage of centuries and the starting point for trails that wind through nature and silence. And a few minutes away, the Viera y Clavijo Botanical Garden offers a walk among unique species of the archipelago, a green refuge where nature is shown in all its diversity.
Santa Brígida, the "village of flowers", is like this: a corner where history, wine and nature intertwine calmly, inviting you to enjoy the authentic.

Bandama Caldera

The Caldera de Bandama is one of those places where nature speaks softly. Just a few minutes from Villa del Monte, this ancient volcanic crater holds within it centuries of history and a peace that is difficult to describe. From its viewpoint, the view opens onto the valley of Santa Brígida, the vineyards and, in the background, the ocean that shines like a distant horizon.

Walking along its edge or descending to the bottom is an experience that connects with the very essence of our municipality: silence, the strength of the earth and the feeling of being inside something much bigger than oneself.

Roque Nublo

To visit Roque Nublo is to feel the soul of Gran Canaria. Undisputed symbol of the island and millenary witness of the passage of time, this volcanic monolith rises imposingly over the central peaks, more than 1,800 meters above sea level, dominating a landscape of overwhelming beauty. From its base, the world opens up like an ocean of mountains, clouds and infinite ravines.

There, between the silence of the wind and the changing light that bathes the pine forests, one understands why the ancient Canarians considered it a sacred place. Climbing up to Roque Nublo is not just a hike: it is an experience of introspection, pure air and deep connection with the most authentic and powerful nature of the island.

Pico de las Nieves

The Pico de las Nieves is one of those places where the island shows its most intimate and serene side. With an altitude of 1,949 meters, it is the highest point of Gran Canaria and, at the same time, one of the most accessible, which allows you to reach its viewpoint effortlessly and contemplate from there a sea of clouds that seems infinite.

When evening falls, the sky is tinged with gold and violet, and in front of you the silhouette of Teide is silhouetted, floating in the mist. It is, without a doubt, our favorite recommendation to see the sunset on the island: that instant when the light slowly fades and silence fills everything.

Agaete Valley

The Agaete Valley is one of those places where the island shows its greenest and most surprising face. Between volcanic mountains and deep ravines grows the only coffee in Europe, cultivated under the shade of orange trees, mango trees and bougainvilleas.

The air smells of damp earth and the nearby sea. A few minutes away, the small port of Puerto de las Nieves preserves the seafaring essence of another time, with white houses and the sound of the waves breaking gently against the rocks.

It is a corner that invites you to stop, taste its coffee and let yourself be carried away by the calm that seems to envelop everything

Maspalomas dunes

The Maspalomas Dunes are the purest south of the island, a landscape that seems to float between the desert and the sea. The wind draws every day new shapes on the golden sand, while the light of dawn or dusk transforms the horizon into a living painting. Walking among the dunes is an almost silent experience, where you can only hear the footsteps on the sand and the murmur of the ocean in the background. There, next to the lighthouse and the lagoon of La Charca, nature and time seem to stop for an instant.

Vegueta

Walking through Vegueta is to travel to the origin of Gran Canaria. Between cobblestone streets and colonial facades, time is diluted and every corner tells a story. The city was born here, and the echoes of the first travelers who crossed the Atlantic to the New World still resound.

In the heart of the neighborhood is the Columbus House, symbol of the link between the Canary Islands and America. It is a reminder of the admiral's stopover before his voyage, and its courtyards evoke the life of the ancient navigators. Nearby, the Cathedral of Santa Ana stands as a guardian of the past, while the surrounding squares and museums invite you to discover, without haste, the most authentic essence of the island

Painted Cave of Gáldar

The Cueva Pintada de Gáldar is the heart of the ancient aboriginal settlement, the walls still preserve the mysterious geometric traces that the ancient Canary Islanders painted centuries ago, symbols of a deep and silent culture that is still alive in every color and every shape.

Walking through this museum is like stepping into the origins of Gran Canaria. Between the houses dug into the earth and the rooms that show everyday objects of an aboriginal life, one feels an intimate connection with history and with the island itself, as if everything, the volcano, the stone and the people, were part of the same shared memory.
A few steps away, the historic center of Gáldar invites you to stroll leisurely through its cobblestone streets, visit its square and discover the calm of a town that still retains the soul of the past

Experience the island like a local

These are just some of the experiences you can enjoy, but there is much more to discover. At Villa del Monte we share our personal recommendations, and for each one you will receive all the necessary indications upon arrival at the hotel to make the most of it.

Canarian gastronomy is an essential part of the trip: artisan cheeses, volcanic wines, fresh fish and flavors that tell stories. We will guide you to authentic restaurants and local places that you will love.
